Summer School @ CFL
Parkland School Division is now offering Summer School for current and incoming high school students at Connections For Learning.
Summer School is not only a convenient way to better a bad grade - it’s also a great opportunity to get a head start on the new school year, freeing up your future schedule for courses you didn’t think you’d have time to take, or other important pursuits.
Registration for Summer School opens Monday, April 8, 2019 - right after Spring Break. Please register early to reserve your spot. Summer School courses are offered based on student interest: popular courses are known to fill up quickly, while courses without enough registered students will be cancelled. Get your name on the list soon for the best chance of participating in your preferred course.
Course Delivery Methods
Summer school courses will be taught using two unique delivery methods - choose the one that best suits your learning style.
Learn from a teacher in a traditional classroom setting. Choose from a selection of core courses for 5 credits, Physical Education 10 and CALM for 3 credits, or a variety of CTS courses for 1 credit.
Dates: July 2-12 (3-credit courses) OR July 2-19 (5-credit courses), 2019
Times: 8:30am-12:45pm, Monday to Friday
Physical Education classes will be held at separate Stony Plain and Spruce Grove locations.
- Stony Plain P.E. - July 2-5, 8 & 9 from 8:30am-2:30pm
- Spruce Grove P.E. - July 2-5 & 8-12 from 8:30-12:45pm
Custom Outdoor Experience (COE) Adventure Camp
This two-week program offers 11 credits in Physical Education, Career and Life Management (CALM) and Forestry. Students will spend a week in class at Connections for Learning, followed by a week at Custom Outdoor Experience, a retreat west of Rocky Mountain House.
The $700 cost of the program covers transportation, meals, lodging, equipment, course materials and instruction on and off campus.
Assisted Independent Study
Learn on your own schedule and visit CFL to get help from a teacher when you need it. Independent study is intended for students repeating a course to improve a grade. A selection of courses are also available to Grade 9 students who will be entering Grade 10 in the fall.
Dates: July 2-19, 2019 (Exams written on July 19 or upon completion of course work)
Teachers Available: 8:30am-3pm, Monday to Friday; 8:30am-Noon Saturdays
Registration & Fees
To register for Summer School, please bring a completed Registration Form, birth certificate, copy of prerequiste (if required) and registration fee or deposit cheque to Connections For Learning.
For Physical Education 10, a $75 registration fee payable to Parkland School Division is required at the time of registration.
For COE Adventure Camp, a $700 registration fee payable to Parkland School Division is required at the time of registration.
For all courses (excluding Physical Education & COE), one $100 deposit cheque payable to Parkland School Division is required at the time of registration. This cheque will be held and returned to the student when they hand in their Summer School textbooks or novels after completing the course. If fees are outstanding in other Parkland School Division programs, the $100 deposit will be applied to those fees.
Important to Note:
Every day of Summer School instruction is the equivalent to one week of a high school semester program.
Full attendance is required for classroom courses and no provisions will be made for late starts or early releases.
Students must be in attendance on the final day of class to write their final exam.
No 30-Level Courses will be offered at CFL Summer School for 2019. Students interested in 30-Level courses are advised to check out Alberta Distance Learning Courses or Edmonton Public School Summer School.
CFL reserves the right to cancel any class for which the minimum enrollment is NOT reached.
